A premium plywood brand: influencer loyalty for carpenters & dealers

Premium plywood fights two wars at once: first-copy counterfeits riding its brand, and grade substitution at the counter — MR-grade sold against a BWP specification, the customer none the wiser behind the laminate. Both wars are lost or won at the carpenter's judgment and the dealer's counter.

The challenge

The brand needed carpenter pull strong enough that substitution attempts failed at the site, anti-counterfeit mechanics that survived the category's bulk-scanning culture, and dealer alignment around genuine sell-through rather than whatever moved fastest.

What Unotag did

1

Cut-to-reveal serialisation

Unotag's defining design for the category: QR codes positioned inside the sheet structure, revealed only on cutting. A code only accessible at genuine usage cannot be counter-harvested — solving the bulk-scan problem structurally rather than statistically, and making every scan a verified consumption event.

2

Grade-tiered earning

Per-sheet earning was tiered steeply by grade — marine and BWP earning multiples of MR — placing the brand's premium-specification strategy directly into the carpenter's per-sheet economics and making grade substitution personally costly to the trade.

3

Site-project registration

Geo-verified multi-sheet projects earned completion bonuses, capturing project-level consumption patterns and adding a second verification layer over individual sheet scans.

4

Dealer genuine-sell-through schemes

Dealer incentives computed on scan-verified genuine sheet movement — aligning the counter against first-copies economically: every fake sold displaced a sheet that would have earned the dealer program value.

5

Counterfeit enforcement pipeline

Invalid and duplicate code patterns fed an enforcement workflow with geographic clustering — turning the carpenter network's everyday scanning into a counterfeit-detection system with evidence-grade output.

The value Unotag added

Bulk scanning ended by design, not policing

Cut-to-reveal placement made fraudulent scanning physically impossible rather than statistically detected — the cleanest influencer data in the brand's category.

Grade substitution attacked at its economics

Steep grade multipliers made the premium specification the carpenter's profitable choice, defending exactly where the brand's margin lived.

Dealers recruited against first-copies

Genuine-sell-through schemes converted counters from passive channels into economically-interested authenticity allies.

Verified consumption as planning data

Cut-verified scans gave demand signals reliable enough for production and inventory planning — a data asset competitors' counter-scanned programs cannot match.

What made it work

1. Cut-to-reveal QR is sheet-goods' structural answer to bulk scanning.

2. Grade multipliers defend premium specification where substitution happens.

3. Dealer schemes on verified genuine movement align the counter against fakes.
